One of our customers in the Milwood area had recently relocated from out of state. They have a beautiful 100 year old home. The home has no insulation in the walls.

The homeowner’s desire was to not only to insulate but to achieve a maintenance-free and natural looking exterior.

“We wanted to get quotes on removing our wood siding, insulating fully with fiberglass insulation then replacing our siding with a concrete-type siding like Hardee Board”

“We felt that it would give us the best insulating quality and the most natural looking maintenance-free exterior.”

The homeowner was receptive to an alternative to our concrete board proposal. This option would not only insulate far better than their original idea, but also give them more choices for the exterior look at a price that would fit into the budget.

Our final project included Retro-foam insulation, soffits and fascia board trim, exterior Dow backer board and heavy pvc shake-style siding by Certainteed.

Step 1:
We drilled a 2 ½ inch port to each stud cavity thru the exterior siding. A latex non-expanding foam (Retro-foam) was then introduced into the walls from bottom to top.

Step 2:
The soffits and fascia boards were then trimmed with pvc and pvc coated products.

Step 3:
The Dow backer board and pvc shake-style siding by Certainteed were installed to all vertical siding surfaces.

The resulting product is a wall that is completely sealed from any further air infiltration.

The R value of the walls has now increased to over R-20.

And the easy to clean exterior is a rich looking and complimentary to the era in which the home was built.
